Creativity is a process not an event.

There is a common misconception that either you are born creative or you never will be a creative person, that however, is only half the truth. The other half of that truth is that creativity can In fact be developed! Shocking, right? A person who wants to be more creative can be, mind you, it takes time. Creativity doesn’t just happen on its own, it is a process that takes time and concentration. Did you know exercising can make you more creative? Well an experiment was conducted on a group of people, half of which, exercised beforehand and half of which did not. When they were shown a video that required them to find a solution, the former came up with more creative solutions than the latter! That however does not mean that exercising, on its own will turn someone creative, but it will definitely help. “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.” ...

DEATH PENALTY- JUSTIFIED OR NOT.

After seven years of committing the most reprehensible of crimes, when the alleged rapists of Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case were hanged after three months of delayed judgement, a very famous question of whether capital punishment awarded to perpetrators for committing crimes against women is justified or not, rose. Many scholarly articles started flooding the internet, a vast set of people supporting the law took to one side of the story while the others advocating the rights administered to a human being by the very supreme court, took to another. It is not very unlikely of people to take sides and form opinions of their own when an issue like this brings to the light of the day. Still, in cases like these, wherein the scenario itself is lacking the humanity as mentioned earlier in question, the decision making power should be vested with an institution experienced enough with the systematic process of bringing justice to home, aka, in this situation, The Hon'ble Supreme Cou...

Decriminalization of Homosexuality: Road Ahead for the LGBTQ community of India

India has always been a lot repressed when it comes to matters of homosexuality. Not until some years back, discussions on homosexuality were still a taboo. And those that had the courage to openly embrace their homosexuality were looked down upon. Even the constitution of India criminalized homosexual relationships in its article 377.     Just two years back, in September 2018, the Supreme Court of India passed a legendary judgment when it announced the scraping of the Constitution Article 377. There were celebrations all over the country, pride parade s were evident celebrating their freedom to love people, to be in a relationship. But, the really question is- has this changed things? The answer, quite evidently is no . There are still many homosexuals out there, fighting for their identities. They still have to struggle to find jobs even if they have all the required qualifications because some narrow minded people still to judge their sexuality as a flaw. Also...

BROWSING AFFECTS AN INDIVIDUAL’S PRODUCTIVITY:

Browsing is an extremely casual word for the process of visual assimilation, followed by it’s application in our daily lives. I personally believe in the numbers and therefore, here I present to you, some statistics related to browsing that should matter to all of us as educated individuals. Before that, anything that we see and go through while using our Internet counts to be a browsed content on our part.  Browsing can be done on Internet browsers like Chrome, Opera Mini, Firefox etc along with the social media applications that we tend to use a lot these days, namely- Instagram, Facebook etc. Instagram has over 1 billion monthly active users. 500 Million are daily users. 75% are aged 35 & below. Instagram users spend an average of 53 minutes on browsing everyday & so on.  Facebook has 2.6 billion monthly active users. An average user spends 58 minutes daily on Facebook. 300 Million people view Facebook stories everyday and so on. Do we realize how much produ...

Women empowerment and gender equality Addressing the equality challenges.

As we go on living in the 21 st century, we often tend to believe that women are no longer seen as the weaker sex. That they are treated equally and like men in our society. But is it really true? Let’s think again. Crime against women has not decreased. If anything it has been increasing in the past decade. We need to ask ourselves has the human mind evolved with human society? Is the position of women has changed at all or just has shifted into a more a subtle discriminative form?  We can’t deny that women have come forward on many fronts and have been accepted and in some rare cases have been treated the same as men but in the majority cases, it is not that different. Many taboos are still attached with hiring a woman as a boss. A recent study conducted in Washington, D.C. claims that male employees are more likely to quit their jobs if they have a female boss. Apparently, female employees are moody and more unprofessional and are more likely to throw temper tantrums. Ge...

India adolescents need proper sexual education and reproductive health awareness

Sex education can be defined as a keen understanding of lifelong sexual health including contraceptive methods, HIV/AIDS prevention programs, and family planning in adults. In India, sex education is still considered taboo and stigma are attached to it. Today adolescents comprise of total 18% of the world population and India has the largest adolescent population out of all countries. This makes it important to teach them about sexual health and make them aware of different aspects of it. The sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents in India are currently overlooked or are not understood by the Indian healthcare system. And if some schools sex education is taught then, sexual health is not openly discussed due to cultural and social norms. This sort of incomplete information leads to misjudgments making them less likely to adopt healthy sex practices and attitudes. Sex education is also important for having a healthy lifestyle, emotional connection, and communication i...

Drug abuse is rampant among Indian teenagers

The Youth of India are the future leaders of our country, but every year we lose several of these smart, brilliant youth to Drug abuse. Drug abuse is extremely common among the teenagers of India.  There are several contributing factors that influence these teenagers, but one of the leading contributing factor is peer pressure, friends can change a person for the better or worse, and in this case, definitely for the worse. When the youngsters see the people of their peer groups abusing all sorts of drugs, they start to label drugs as “cool” and when one refuses to use, they are labelled as “uncool” or “losers” and reputation means everything to teenagers and adolescents and they will do anything to keep up their reputation, even things that are harmful to them.  Another important cause for the increase of drug use/ abuse among teenagers is stress. The stress from school, parents and other social groups makes the teen feel pressurized, and as if they can’t seek comfort i...

Prenatal Sex Determination: A Heinous Crime!

Going by popular opinion, nothing can be compared to the happiness of holding your baby in your arms for the first time. So why, then, are parents barred from knowing the gender of their child before they are born? In fact, it is also termed as a crime in some countries, including India. But since when did the urge of knowing about one’s own baby become a crime? Prenatal sex determination was banned in India around 1994, following an upsurge in the killing of female fetuses. This mass infanticide was deemed as a result of the deep-rooted patriarchal influence that was strongly implanted with many Indian counterparts. These were the people that regarded daughters as a burden - given that, she had to be married off with large dowries and would ultimately serve another household. These people soon learned the after effects of their heinous crime in a hard way. They were soon having difficulties in finding a suitable bride for their sons, as a lot of people, like them, had killed of...

MENTAL ILLNESS IS MORE COMMONPLACE IN URBAN INDIA, AS COMPARED TO RURAL INDIA:

In a report suggested by the WHO, India is the most depressed country in the world. The same report suggested death by suicide as a major death cause of our country. Since then, the annual expenditure on mental health by the government might have hardly been raised from 0.06% to 0.07% annually. Every third person out of five in the world is experiencing various mental & psychological issues; which is an alarming rate, both on a global & a national level. One out of every five Indians is suffering from a mental disorder. Mental illness/ disorders encompasses a large number of categories. Some of them include depression, anxiety, panic attacks, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and so on. All of them affect a person’s mood, thoughts and behaviour which in turn affect a person’s mental & social growth. Where do you think all of this began from in the first place? I think, it started the moment our population decided to grow exponentially in terms of manpower, currency, prof...

Supreme court's take on Triple Talaq

The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, in it's landmark judgment of Shayara bano v. Union of India pronounced on August 22, 2017, has set aside the practice of Talaq-e-Bidat or "Triple Talaq" with the majority Ratio of 3:2, through a Constitutional bench comprising of Judges, all from different religions ie. Justice Kurian Joseph, a catholic, Justice UU Lalit, a Hindu and Justice RF Nariman, a Parsi, Chief Justice Khehar, a Sikh and Justice Abdul Nazeer, a Muslim. Justice Kurian Joseph, who was a part of the majority bench, clearly stated that he finds the practise of Triple talaq very integral to the religious domination in question and that the same is definitely not a part of their personal law. Many of them accented to the fact that the practise of Triple talaq is very arbitrary in a sense that a marital tie anno broken whimsically by a muslim man without any attempt of reconciliation or trying to save it along with being inconsiderate towards the petty condition of ...
